From a Simple Forest Plot to a Stylish Retreat
In 1965, Siegfried Maurer fulfilled a heartfelt dream: he acquired a wild, forested piece of land in the area known as “Stuonrig” with the vision of creating a peaceful haven for himself and his family.
Six years later, in 1971, the guesthouse opened its doors. It didn’t take long for the first guests from Germany and the Netherlands to discover and appreciate the special location and the warm, family-run atmosphere.
What began as a modest project grew steadily over the decades – with dedication, care, and a deep respect for its roots. The building was expanded and modernized time and again, all while preserving its original charm.
Today, Apart Elisabeth stands for stylish 4-star comfort, Alpine-inspired design, and genuine hospitality – a place to arrive, breathe, and return to.
“Shaped by history,
nurtured with love –
and open to all
who seek
something genuine.”

1960s: Siegfried's Vision
As early as the 1960s, Siegfried Maurer acquired the plot of land in “Stuonrig” from his uncle Heinrich Maurer – known locally as the Mühlhofbauer from Untermieming. At the time, the area was still forested and largely undeveloped.
1965–1971 – Construction & Opening
In 1965, a spacious two-family home was built. Due to personal family events, the completion of the house was delayed, and it wasn’t until 1971 that the doors could finally open. What began as a private residence quickly evolved into the small guesthouse “Pension Elisabeth,” with lovingly furnished rooms and shared bathroom facilities. Even in those early years, the house welcomed guests from Germany and the Netherlands – drawn by the tranquil setting and warm hospitality.
1981 – A Comfort Upgrade
The rooms were equipped with private toilets, and the first apartments were created on the second floor. Many longtime guests still fondly remember the original, cozy bunk beds tucked under the eaves.
1996 – Transition to Apartments
As guest expectations evolved, the accommodation was gradually converted into fully equipped apartments, featuring kitchenettes as well as separate living and dining areas.
“Not every place
comes with a great story.
Some simply offer calm.
And sometimes,
that’s the most
beautiful thing of all.”

1998 – Creation of the Swimming Pond
A natural swimming pond was created in the spacious garden – today a centerpiece in the 3,000 m² natural garden.
2008–2009 – Major Renovation & Expansion
The existing building underwent extensive renovation: a passenger elevator was installed, and an underground garage was added. In 2009, Apart Elisabeth reopened – featuring 11 light-filled apartments designed with abundant Swiss pine, larch wood, and natural stone.
2021 – Thoughtful Upgrades During the Pandemic
While travel paused, we used the time to refresh the house: updating older areas with elegant wooden floors and contemporary, high-quality bathroom fittings.
